Highway 6 striping project expected to cause delays through Thursday

Heading to the Tillamook Forest this week? Plan for extra time on Highway 6.

An Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) striping project from Banks to Tillamook this week began Tuesday morning.

“Expect traffic delays as we move along the road. Please use caution and be patient as we perform this work to improve safety. Give yourself plenty of time to make the trip, or use an alternate route,” a press release from the agency read.

According to ODOT, the project will occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and should wrap up on Thursday. The striping will take place from milepost 46, which is located near the Killin Wetlands west of Banks all the way to the highway’s intersection with U.S. 101 in Tillamook.

It wasn’t clear if the region’s high temperatures on the east side of the Coast Range would impact the project schedule, but with many people expected to head to the coast to escape the heat wave, motorists could be in for long waits on the highway.
